Weekend Escape

November 25, 20243 min read

So I've been meaning to write this post all November but time has not been really in my control lately and actually I can't believe the weekend away I'm sharing with you was even in this month! But I wanted to share with you some pictures and some takeways from having a weekend away at the start of November.

The Trip

My husband Aaron and I were able to get away for a weekend at the beginning of November. It was a birthday trip for both of us. My birthday had been in that week (29th of October if you are writing this down) and Aaron's was coming in November. And it was based around going to see Coldplay which of course had been booked for about a year.

This was my first time away from Oscar for more than a night and in a totally different state so that felt a bit funny and at that time I was 6 months pregnant but I really needed a break. Aaron is away a lot at the moment with work and so I am juggling toddler, growing the new baby and work so i needed some rest.

We flew out on the Saturday and after some lengthy delays arrived in Melbourne. Got to our apartment and headed to dinner at State of Grace. This was a really great restaurant, the food and service was really good (omg the Crispy Halloumi was divine) and there was such a cool vibe, very vintage meets contemporary. It was lovely to as the waitress found out it was my birthday and bought me dessert on the house with a candle in it. So that was special.

Sunday, we caught up with our friends who were over too, as we were all attending the concert together, for brunch. Sampled the delights of Ii Mercato Centrale and there were plenty! Had a massive rest because the idea of standing at a concert for 3 hours or more while 6 months pregnant was a lot haha!! Then had an awesome dinner right on the water at Cargo Docklands before heading to Marvel Stadium for the Coldplay Concert.

Ok so the concert was fabulous! So much joy and fun and just a chance to be really happy with a whole bunch of other people. We were 15 metres from the stage, there was carpet where I could sit down whenever I needed to and the weather was just right. Plus it was really nice to go to a concert with Aaron, as he loves stadium concerts and has been to many but in our time together, we have just not been able to do that together so that was a really wonderful experience. Thanks Coldplay, it was immensely great time.

And then Monday we headed home, picked up our little boy from his grandparents, where he had had a fabulous time and it was back to life.

Conclusion

Looking back on this I realised a few things:

  1. I hadn't been away for a really long time without a little person needing me.

  2. It was so lovely to just to hang out with adults for a time.

  3. It was nice to feel like you were dating your husband again.

  4. And it was such a brain break and rest to not be thinking about what everyone has to do next, what are they eating, dirty nappies and of course the list goes on.

I also realised that when you don't take that time for yourself, you are so depleted and you are not the best person you can be for anyone. But this little break for me helped me feel more like me again, be a better mum and be more creative in work things so it was important.

So what are your ways of having a "Brain Break" or some time for you? I'd love to know!
