Introduction:

As a mum, it can be hard to find the time to look after yourself. Between taking care of the kids, managing the household and working, there’s not much time left for you. I have a 6 month old and so am reasonably new to this Mum thing but it is tricky to do much and yes "taking a shower" is a moment for myself although either I hear random cries or Oscar is often sitting in his bouncy chair watching me which ruins it just a little haha. So I do try to do a couple of things for myself, like read a book or make sure I do my skincare routine and recently I actually even tried some paint by numbers which is actually in a way fun. I also have a choir that I am a part of and so going to that rehearsal and doing some singing does wonders.

How can I make Myself feel better as a Mum?

Experts suggest finding a mix of activities that leaves you feeling balanced, happy, and fulfilled. This could include anything from spending time with friends and family to doing something you enjoy for yourself.

It's also important to make time for your social life. Social interaction is essential for our mental and emotional health, and it can be especially helpful for mums who are feeling isolated or overwhelmed. So make sure to schedule in some time each week to go out with friends or do something else that you enjoy.

How do you practice self care when you have no time?

Good question! Look, its hard to find a moment to go to the toilet on your own sometimes, let alone set aside specific time for self-care but that right there is the key, setting aside some specific time everyday, even if it's 5 mins, becomes a practice. Remember what self-care really is and what gives you a moment of peace and incorporate it into your life. Live more in the moment, I personally struggle with this. I'm always thinking ahead, wondering what's next and so often since my son was born I have had to remind myself that what I'm doing in that moment, whatever that is, feeding, rocking to sleep, playing on the floor etc is what I am meant to be doing. Plus most of the time I am getting cuddles, watching him grow and being a part of it which is priceless and so that can often turn into a mindfulness moment for me.
