Introduction

One Year! Normally you wouldn't think that one year could mean so much but the first year as a parent is truly monumental. 2 weeks ago we celebrated my son, Oscar's 1st Birthday. It's interesting because as much as you are celebrating the child growing through his first year, you are also celebrating you the parents surviving. So much has happened in that 12 months that really you don't recognise yourself, have trouble remembering what it was like before and yet still grieve certain parts of it.

This first year of Oscar's life has been a year of joy. He is a beautiful, happy, growing boy. He truly brings light and fun to our lives and Aaron and I just adore him. But of course we have had to learn to be parents, learn what he needs and wants, go with lack of sleep and fear he could choke or hurt himself and now we are pulling him out of cupboards and places he is not meant to be and strangely that comes so much quicker than you expect. One minute they are lying there in the same spot you left them, smiling at you and the next they are babbling away, crawling away and very much their own person.

We celebrated Oscar's first birthday with a little party, we had planned it to be at a park near us but Adelaide's strange weather bought rather crazy rain and thunderstorms all of a sudden so about 40 mins before the start time we relocated it to our house. So after a mad rush tidy, stash, clean and furniture shuffling we were ready to go! (thanks family!)

1st Birthday Party for Boy

The party went so well, Oscar had a ball with everyone in his house. LOVED his cake haha and enjoyed playing with balloons and the other kids. We are so grateful for the friends and family who came and who love and care for us and our son. He also received some great gifts.

This year really has been amazing. At times in the day to day so long and hard but then you look and see that months have passed. I am so proud when Oscar achieves a new milestone or learns something new but I also grieve the stage that he then leaves, it is a funny feeling. Do you agree?

I feel I have grown this year and yet also feel that it was exactly what I was meant to step into. I have seen such beautiful growth in Aaron, watching him grow into his dad role has been wonderful to watch.

Conclusion

So I have been a Mum for a year. My son is already 1 year old and Aaron and I survived. We had a wonderful celebration surrounded by friends and family even with rain and thunderstorms. Oscar was happy and smiling and loved having everyone around. We are so blessed and thank God for it all. And now to step into walking and talking!!
