Life gets busy. Between school runs, work deadlines, Christmas shopping, and everything in between, spending an hour on makeup just isn't realistic. But that doesn't mean you have to choose between looking polished and getting out the door on time.
After more than 20 years as a makeup artist and beauty consultant, I've learned exactly which steps make the biggest difference when you're short on time. This is the routine I reach for when I want to look fresh, lifted, awake, and confident without the fuss.
Here's what actually works for me when I've got five minutes and need to feel human again:
1. Start with skincare. Your makeup will always look better and last longer when your skin is properly prepped and hydrated. This isn't an extra step; it's the foundation that makes everything else work.
2. Apply CC cream. Lightweight, quick to blend, and it evens everything out without feeling heavy. This is your base sorted in seconds.
3. Sweep skin-toned shimmer across your lids. Instant brightness that makes you look awake, even if you're running on four hours of sleep.
4. Add a touch of eyeliner (this is an extra step, you don't need to do it, I just like the definition). Just a soft line for subtle definition. Nothing dramatic, just enough to frame your eyes.
5. Brush taupe shadow into your crease. This adds depth fast and creates that lifted, polished look without any complicated blending.
6. Mascara is non-negotiable. Seriously, this one step wakes up your whole face. Never skip it.
7. Define your brows quickly. A few strokes to fill and shape gives you instant polish. It takes seconds but makes a noticeable difference.
8. Add cream blush. This brings back that natural glow and healthy flush. Cream formulas blend effortlessly with your fingers.
9. Set with translucent powder. Just where you need it to prevent shine, without any cakiness or heavy feeling.
10. Finish with a balm or tinted gloss. Fresh, simple, and you're done.
That's it. Ten steps, five minutes, and you're ready to face the day looking like the best version of yourself.
I put up a reel on my instagram about it. Check it out if you want to see me show you what I do.
